When Josh Whitfield passed away in May of 2015, those who loved him (and there are many of us) spent countless hours reflecting on his life. We laughed, we cried, and through our collective stories a sense of his true legacy emerged. Simply put, Josh’s legacy is love. In his 33 years, he did so much for the people who loved him. Now it is our turn to spread the love, inclusiveness, and generosity of spirit that Josh demonstrated every day. It is our hope to reduce the financial barriers to participation in Comstock athletics. 100% of all funds raised will be used to assist Comstock athletes in need by providing activity fees and other supportive services.
Josh made himself available for every event he could. He participated in golf leagues, wiffle ball, indoor soccer, and dodgeball to name a few. It only makes sense to host a variety of fundraising events doing the things he loved most. The JWMAF holds three major fundraising events each year: our Soccer Game, Golf Outing and Holiday Party. We thank the community for participating and encourage all members to join us in the future.
If you, your team or organization would like to apply for funds from the Josh Whitfield Memorial Fund, you will need to download either the grant or scholarship application and submit to the Comstock Community Center. The CCC works together with the JWMAF Board of Directors to ensure the funds are being allocated appropriately. For more information on how the process works, please visit our Apply page or contact us.
Patrick J. Everett Memorial Scholarship
The JWMAF is proud to introduce the Patrick J. Everett Memorial Scholarship. In May of 2017, Pat passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 63. Pat and the Everett Family have been supporters of the JWMAF since its inception and in lieu of flowers, he had asked that people donate to our Fund. This scholarship in his name will be granted to graduating seniors that had participated in athletics and plan to pursue a career in skilled trades.
First Day Shoe Fund
In an effort to increase the Fund’s impact on elementary school youth and encourage a love for all sports, the JWMAF is partnering with the First Day Shoe Fund. Thanks to its loyal and generous donors, the JWMAF will provide a grant to subsidize the First Day Shoe Fund’s distribution of athletic shoes for Comstock youth in 2018 in its entirety.
